These are awesome! while I was out the other day I saw some traditionally dressed carolers walking away. I wanted them to come back but they were gone and I sadly could not sketch them. Glad to see you got a chance to get some themed life drawing. Wonderful job!! :]

I have recently read "Beowulf" in my english class and become slightly obsessed with Vikings and Norsemen. It was a pleasant surprise to find this blog. I love your art work, you shade everything so well, I envy you. Not to mention the waves of the ocean, absolutely amazing!

Hey D! - He'd do slightly different poses to give us anatomy info - but it was about 9 hours over three sessions....

Is that a starwars guy? ya - the instructor thought it was kind of comic book-y - another guy just said it looked like metal gear - so that's cool - something's working...

Hi Marc

Regarding that cool mix- I read he uses a flesh mixture of ultramarine, burnt sienna and white. You can come up with all kinds of variations from this basic mix.

Windsor newton makes green gold. Really nice color.

thanks for all the info!

ya, again, not sure specificaly, but you know, you could just play with the mix - I tried it with Ultramarine, Cad Red Med, Cad Lemon and White - got an approximation....

This particular model had a very pale pink-y, alizairan-y Caucasian skin - so I don't know that I even used it very much....(on this painting)...but that's why his was probably better - he really greyed off the body - making a strong smooth silhouette...
