It’s been a fun year, drawing with the drop-in group at the concept art atelier. Met some great artists and excellent models, and it’s always cool to see the work-in-progress in the main studio. Sadly, they’ve shut down the weekend open drawing; quoting too much organizational overhead for the irregular attendance. Ah well - I guess I’ll be shifting activities to soma arts (9th and Brannan, Sat, 10:00 to 1:30)…

ok, not really a cadaver…but he looked like he had one foot in the grave - dude had zero energy…couldn’t even keep his head upright - every other five min pose had to be a recline…not the kind of guy I’d necessarily chose to draw, but it did force me to try a little harder….

I wasn’t totally satisfied with my digital painting from last weeks longpose sitting. Sometimes I find those photoshop paintings get too slick…too overly polished. So I went back and did an oil sketch using the other two pieces as reference. Right now (without much time to think about it, since I finished this 15 min ago) I prefer this looser, fresher treatment. I think it gets right to the character - and it’s more lively to look at…
(sorry about the fuzzy photo - hard to take pics of wet paintings :)
