international sketchcrawl…

Posted by tarosan on August 28, 2007

Last weekend was the 15th international sketchcrawl - an art event launched by a couple of artists here in SF. Every few months artist all around the world hit their respective streets for a day, and post the results to the forum. Our local meetup was Golden Gate park - my favorite bit was capturing these people doing Tai Chi:

drawing the veil…

Posted by tarosan on August 23, 2007

I guess Islam is on our mind a lot right now, for whatever reason I found myself sketching these at the bar tonight - I’m sure my sketches don’t do a single thing to improve the middle-east situation, quite the opposite probably. Looking at them now, they’re guilty of the same thinking that created the 19th century fad for ‘orientalism‘…

I was going to comment how it’s pretty rude what you’ll find if you go image search for ‘burka’…(various questionable burka-porn pops up right away (well, it does if you’ve disabled safe search as I do…) - but a quick followup search on ‘crucifixion’ reminds me that the interweb is at least fair minded about offending everyone equally….

sin·u·ous

Posted by tarosan on August 16, 2007

Sin·u·ous: characterized by a series of graceful curving motions….

These sketches are, of course, done from
google pics of Rachel Brice - thx to the photographers :)

Process….

Posted by tarosan on August 10, 2007

I’m always a fan of seeing people’s process - so even tho’ I posted the final image already, I thought I’d put up the ‘making of’. This was a thumbnailing exercise, sort of a storyboard for a level -(not a for-real project, just an art test)- the thing I’m always striving for is telling the most story with the least rendering. In a way my drawing is based on a lot of ideas and a short attention span…

the dying gaul…

Posted by tarosan on August 6, 2007

I think of this model from CA.O atelier as ‘the dying gaul’ - he’s really buff, and does these warrior poses, but he also has this great patriarch’s face. Has the look of some wise old holy man - but he’s a barbarian holy man who kicks ass….
