dr. sketchy’s barbary coast…

Yet another venue in my tour of San Francisco drawing opportunities….Dr. Sketchy (originally out of NYC) has a SF chapter….last week was the first time at a new location; Bombshell Betty’s on Bryant…not sure if that’s long-term or not, but I’m sure they’ll keep us updated on their own blog: (drsketchysf.com)

Sketch Tuesday, 111 Mina

Took in a local event: Gallery/Lounge 111 Mina hosts a monthly drawing jam they call Sketch Tuesdays….Live DJ + Live Artists = my kind of hangout… plus you can pick up a sketch from the back wall for under $25 bucks!

Trying out neupastel: the black feels kind of….weak - slow to give coverage
but the white is sweet - nice and opaque…it’s all about those highlights.

…working my way back up the food chain of media: (pencil>pen>ink>watercolor>oil)…. took the watercolors to the SOMA art center - of about 30 sketches for the day, this was one just instantly worked - ZING - it just happens sometimes.

drawing the broken doll…

…dropped by the conceptart.org drawing group last weekend (11am-2pm Saturdays, 301 8th st, at Folsom - big yellow building, buzz to get in)…

It’s a nice (if small) drawing space with the kind of dramatic light I like, and as an added bonus you can snoop through some excellent work-in-progress in the Atellier right next door.

Last week’s model was a performer from SF based group Lucent Dossier, doing this cool ‘broken doll’ character…
